ABOUT ME

A glimpse into me

My name is Raúl Herrero and I was born and raised in Santander, a beautiful city on the north coast of Spain. When I was young, I had deep interest in the media, so I decided to study my Bachelor of Arts in Audiovisual Communication in the University of Salamanca, where I graduated in 2011.

However, two main events in my life made me reconsider my future career:

Both experiences made me realized the importance of education in developing any society and our commitment to make a difference in this world. Therefore, I decided to study my Master of Education and, in June 2013, I oficially became a teacher!

My passion

Since then, I have been involved in a variety of paid and volunteer work in the field of Education. Among these, I would highlight:

  • Placement in a Middle School in New Jersey to observe and co-teach Spanish with Mrs. B.
  • Teaching Spanish and English as a Second Language in a Middle School in Spain.
  • Teaching 5th grade bilingual students in Texas as part of the International Teaching Exchange Program. In 2019, I was chosen as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year in my school!

These experiences have offered me many professional development opportunities that have enriched my capacity in creating engaging lessons to motivate all students. Among these methods, I would include cooperative learning strategies, integrating the use of technology and hands-on activities that promote all styles of learning. In short, I want my students to have fun while they learn!

And in my free time…

Regarding my hobbies, I have deep interest in music, reading, outdoors activities and photography. You can check a sample of my photographies on the slide show or visiting my Flickr page.

However, the thing I enjoy the most in my free time is TRAVELING! I love the adventure of backpacking around the world, getting to know new cultures, new people, new food… It is the best! My  memorable travel experiences in Europe, Asia and America have made me capable of adapting to different countries and cultures in a really positive way, as well as providing relevant experience for my future career.
